Bipasha Basu ’s funk factor
Bipasha Basu has been worried about a lot of things of late. For starters, she was apprehensive about her bold look in Aa Dekhen Zara — you know Bipasha Basu
those black nails, coloured hair, tattoo on her chest... it was all just too much too handle. ”
But then her team of designers and stylists stepped in and convinced her to go along with the look. And now Bips has never been happier. “But I’ll be happiest when my home is done,” she tells us. Uff, yeh ghar ghar ki kahani kab khatam hogi?

Just one day makes a difference: Kareena Kapoor
She wore the pants for this issue. Kareena Kapoor, drop-dead gorgeous even at touching distance in black trousers and blue top, a scarf hiding
Kareena Kapoor
her neck, strode into the BT editorial conference room at 11 am with an air of purpose.
She was here to edit today’s International Woman’s Day issue — and share in the Times Group’s plans for Women’s March... a month-long calendar of activities in Mumbai thoughtfully drawn up with the 21st century Indian woman in mind, and incorporating such bold and exciting events as riding the waves and clouds in private yachts and small airplanes, a cooking contest where men wear the aprons and toques and get behind the kitchen fires, and an all-women’s car rally from Bandra Kurla Complex to Lonavla and back. The morning ‘cuppa was ignored, so were veggie sandwiches not made in brown bread, the Bollywood reigning No 1 knows how to maintain her size zero. And she doesn’t snack in between work.
Her agenda was simple, this was a man’s world, yes, but there were quite a few women who had made a difference internationally as well — and now was the time to acknowledge them. Like who, the BT edit team asked. “Take Ash and me in Bollywood, for instance,” Kareena shot back, blue pencil poised. “Ash has gone international, she’s taken the country forward in some way... though she’s not very youth centric.” What about the other actresses? “They’re all still struggling to make the mark,” she smiled back, all dimples. And there was Meryl Streep in Hollywood who had taken acting to another level. “I’d swim the Seven Seas to get a glimpse of her,” the woman editor said wistfully. “Ditto Oprah Winfrey, who rose on the stepping stones of her former troubled life to make such a huge and positive impact on other people’s lives.” Somebody asked, what about Michelle Obama? Kareena pouted, “No, Sonia Gandhi... somebody who when she came to India, didn’t know the local language... but she changed herself and is today running the country.” And Freida Pinto? “She’s got determination and a lot of luck... Lady Luck is on her side, look where she’s come from, a one-bedroom flat in Malad, today she’s doing a Woody Allen film... even Ash hasn’t done that.”
The stories for this issue were discussed, ticked off on the editor’s list as either being approved or shot down. Kareena was asked by an over zealous lady reporter, “Why not have Woman’s Day throughout the year?” She replied without hesitation, “One day makes it more special, we excel at our jobs 24/7, but being celebrated and honoured on just one day makes a difference... it’s like our birthday or Valentine’s day, we’d look forward to it and appreciate it more.” Somebody else grumbled that women were forever taking the backseat once they got married. The woman editor pounced on that cue and tossed it back, saying, “The media does not support actresses who get married. Shaadi ho gayi, tho buddhi ho gayi. Actresses sell their talent, not beauty or souls. In Hollywood, actresses are known for their performances, not status and age... look at Kate Winslet, at Meryl Streep, here once you’re in your 30s, if you’re not sexy, you’re branded a Mata!”

Kylie's Great, But Working With Akshay Nostalgic: Farah Khan
Director-choreographer Farah Khan says Australian singer Kylie Minogue was "a dream to work with" in forthcoming film "Blue", but she was even more excited to work with Akshay Kumar after a year's gap.
The two had last come together for Farah's directorial venture "Om Shanti Om", where Akshay was seen in a cameo as 'Khiladi Kumar'. And she didn't miss the opportunity to work with him in the much-hyped song featuring Kylie in director Anthony D'Souza's "Blue".
"I enjoy working with Akshay and have always had great fun shooting with him. In 'Om Shanti Om' he was a riot and sporting enough to have consented to do a cameo. We were in splits throughout when he came back in his 'Khiladi Kumar' image. This was a year and a half back and when we shot again in 'Blue', it was quite nostalgic," Farah told reporters.
The ace choreographer bonded quite well with Kylie even though they were working together for the first time.
"That's right, we hadn't interacted earlier but knew about each other's work. She had seen 'Om Shanti Om' and was also aware about my musical 'Bombay Dreams'. Once we started working together for the 'Blue' song, we gelled well quite quickly. She is a dream to work with," Farah said.
Farah has now become very choosy when it comes to taking up choreography assignments ever since she donned the director's hat for "Main Hoon Na" in 2004. But she has made exceptions.
In fact, one of the songs she decided to choreograph earlier also featured Akshay. The number was "Mast Kalandar" from the film "Heyy Babyy", which was directed by her brother Sajid Khan. Of course, the song had her favourite actor friend Shah Rukh kahan making an appearance too.
"It's always a great experience to work with Akshay since he is a fun-loving guy. Moreover, he is very professional and very punctual. There were many factors that contributed to me agreeing to work on the song and Akshay being a part of it only helped," Farah said about accepting "Blue".
Apart from Kylie and Akshay, the much-awaited song also features Zayed Khan, Lara Dutta and Sanjay Dutt. Composed by Oscar-winning musician A.R. Rahman, the number has been sung by Kylie and Sonu Nigam.
"The number is a mix of Western and Punjabi bhangra, hence turning out to be a great mix. Rahman has come up with a great tune again. To begin with, while Kylie sings her own portion in English, Sonu Nigam brings on a Punjabi element in the second half of the song," she explained.
"Blue" is set to release in the latter half of 2009.

Kate Winslet is the El Dorado for politicians
UK''s political party The Liberal Democrats was left red faced after it used Kate Winslet''s pictures in an advertisement without her consent.
Party leader Nick Clegg, a pal of the actress'' director-husband Sam Mendes, was left guarding his pride after a snap of the Oscar winner was made to appear promoting a Lib Dem awards ceremony.
The picture, apparently showing her at the recent Lib Dem Council Awards in Harrogate, was featured in the party''s conference brochure.
It allegedly offered the belief that Winslet, who has always sealed her political affiliations, was a Lib Dem supporter.
"They did not request permission to use the image and, so far, Kate has not been made aware of its use. I am not aware of her political position," the Independent quoted her rep as saying.
However, a Lib Dem spokesman insisted: "It was a humorous piece for a fairly low-key event."
On being questioned if the ad backed the idea of depicting the star as a party supporter, he added: "That is not the idea.... We are more than happy to make it clear that it is not the case."

Celina Jaitley to copy Priyanka
MUMBAI: Looks like Celina is all set to become the flavour down south. After her award winning performance as a South Indian belle in Golmaal Returns, former Miss India Celina Jaitley is all set to do a full fledged role in a south Indian film and has signed her first Kannada film named Shreemati opposite South Superstar Upendra. Apparently her co-star Upendra has already written the story and screenplay of the bilingual movie in Kannada and Telugu. We hear that the film is the remake of the Bollywood Blockbuster Aitraaz and Celina will be essaying the same role as that of Priyanka's in the Hindi film. Interestingly, Priyanka's role in Aitraaz had earlier been offered to Celina by Abbas Mustan but she had turned it down and now Celina is doing the same role in Kannada. The shooting for the film started on 4th March in Bangalore and the next schedule will be held in South Africa. Looks like Celina is all set to entice the South Indians!!

New trend in Bollywood with the titles : Cover Story
Film titles have gone from baffling to whacky to mindless and very articulate to extremely lengthy. Most titles are longer than the relationship that co-stars share! Every alternate film is known by a short form. If you don't know what RNBDJ is or if you are unsure about the full-form of CC2C, you are just not in the ring! You need to brush up. We pick the top actors of today to see how the film-title trend has got to them.
Aamir Khan The leading Khan of today, post Ghajini, made his debut in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (19 letters) in 1988. He was then seen in films like Raakh, Dil and Parampara in the late 80's and early 90's. His hit films however, were those with lengthy titles like Dil Hai Ki Maanta Nahin (19 letters) in 1991, Jo Jeeta Wahi Sikander (19 letters) in 1992, Hum Hai Raahi Pyaar Ke (18 letters) in 1993 and Akele Hum Akele Tum (16 letters) in 1995 to name a few. Of course also he had short film titles that were hits; viz Rangeela (8 letters) in 1995, Ghulam (6 letters) in 1998 and more recently Ghajini (7 letters) in 2008. Post 2000, we see Aamir acting in films with a short film titles with the exception of Dil Chahta Hai (12 letters) in 2001, Mangal Pandey: The Rising (21 letters) in 2005, Rang De Basanti (13 letters) in 2006 and Taare Zameen Par (14 letters) in 2007.
Shah Rukh Khan His recent performance in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi won the hearts of many and brought back tears of joy in the eyes of his fans. SRK started his Bollywood journey with Deewana (7 letters) in 1992. He soon climbed up the hit list with hit performances in Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman (20 letters) in 1992, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa (17 letters) in 1993, Dil Toh Pagal Hai (14 letters) in 1997, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (15 letters) in 1998, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (20 letters) in 2001, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna (18 letters) in 2006, Chak De India (11 letters) in
2007 and his latest hit Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (16 letters) in 2008. His trend for long film titles will continue into 2009 where he will be seen in My Name is Khan (12 letters), Koochie Koochie Hota Hai (21 letters) and Dulha Mil Gaya (12 letters). Will they spell a hit for him?
Salman Khan The Khan of yesteryear is better known for his controversies now, than his films. He isn't out of the limelight but he hasn't been getting the right offers and Salman isn't able to make the right choice. First seen in Biwi Ho Toh Aisi (13 letters) in 1988, his efforts were only recognized for Maine Pyaar Kiya (14 letters) in 1989 for which he also won the Filmfare Best Male Debut Award. Since then he has been seen in the huge hit Andaz Apna Apna (13 letters) in 1994, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun (16 letters) where he shook his booty with the oomphy Madhuri Dixit. He was also seen in Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya (19 letters) in 1998 and Hum Saath Saath Hain (17 letters) in
1999. Post 2000 the number game didn't seem to work for him. Whether it was Lucky: No Time or Love (18 letters) in 2005 with Aishwarya Rai look-alike, Sneha Ullal or God Tussi Great Ho (15 letters) in 2008 with lovely lass Priyanka Chopra, nothing seemed to work. Yuvvraaj (8 letters), Hello (5 letters) and Heroes (6 letters) all in 2008 flopped miserably as well. We hardly have a solution to his numerology and now Sallu's forthcoming films like Veer(4 letters),Wanted Dead and Alive(18 letters) then its Main Aur Mrs. Khanna(16 letters) so we hope that these letters will work for Salman Khan.
Akshay Kumar Starting off as a small time chef in Bangkok, this man worked his way up in Bollywood and how! Today, one of the highest paid actors and the countries only khiladi man, Akshay Kumar rakes in the moolah be it a long film title or a short one! He started off with Saugandh
(8 letters) in 1991. His first lengthy film title came in 1993 called Waqt Hamara Hai (13 letters). After a series of one to two word titles, Akshay transformed into khiladi man with his film Khiladiyon ka Khiladi (19 letters) in 1996. Soon every film of his had the mention of khiladi either in the film's title or in dialogues in the film. He did a series of action-romance films like Main Khiladi Tu Anari (18 letters) in
1994, Sabse Bada Khiladi (16 letters) in 1995, International Khiladi (20 letters) in 1999 and Khiladi 420 (7 letters) in 2000. Post this, he was seen in more versatile roles in films with shorter titles like Ajnabee (7 letters) in 2001, Aankhen (7 letters) in 2002, Khakee (6 letters) in
2004, Aitraaz (7 letters) in 2004 and Welcome (7 letters) in 2007. His bigger hits have been Bhool Bhulaiya (13 letters) in 2007 and Singh is Kinng (12 letters) in 2008. We don't think the name is of much importance for this superstar as in 2009 his films like Blue (4 letters), Eight By Ten (10 letters), Kambakth Ishq (12 letters),De Dana Dan (9 letters),Helloo India(11 letters).will these numbers will be lucky for Akki..?
The trend of long film names and names taken from a hit song of yesteryear won't meet its end too soon. Newer actors like Ranbir Kapoor (Saawariya to Bachna Ae Haseeno and now to be seen in Ajab Pyaar ki Gajab Kahani) and Deepika Padukone (Om Shanti Om to Bachna Ae Haseeno and now Chandni Chowk to China) are starring in films with lengthy titles.

Ayesha Takia weds Farhan
MUMBAI: Bollywood actress Ayesha Takia who has been much in news for quite sometime now, not because of her movies, but about her getting married to her long time boyfriend - restaurateur Farhan Azmi finally tied the knots.
The wedding was originally planned for December last year but was postponed after the November 26 terror attacks in Mumbai.
Unlike other Bollywood weddings, Ayesha and Farhan preferred to keep it simple. They had a quiet Nikaah like a traditional Muslim ceremony, amid close friends and family members at Farhan's restaurant in Colaba. Infact it was being said that Ayesha & Farhan's outfits were traditional ones and not made by any designers. While Farhan wore a sherwani, Ayesha stunned in a gold sharara.
According to the recent reports, though the Nikaah was a hush hush affair but the couple's parents hosted a grand reception party in the evening at the CCI Stadium in Churchgate. And as many as 5000 guests were invited including many Bollywood luminaries to congratulate Ayesha & Farhan.
Here's wishing the newly weds all the very best and happy life ahead.

Sonam Kapoor in Killing a movie
Sonam Kapoor with that dove perched on her head in Delhi 6 beautifully epitomises that free-flying spirit which our cinema has adopted.
Sonam, is all set to play a Delhi-centric high-society version of Jane Austen Emma in her papa’s production. Anil and Sonam are a part of the new-age cinema. We want a change. And we want it fast. But when it stares us in the face we grimace and turn away. I’ve come to realise our industry is essentially a breeding-ground for meanness. Hours after Delhi 6 was screened for the first time the kill-the-film campaign had started. Thank God for the SMS service.
Abhishek Bcahchan is gradually honing his skills to become the only leading man who doesn’t need to act with his muscles. A lot of the hostility to Abhishek comes from the fact that he doesn’t open his bedroom doors for news-hounds and his shirt and pants buttons for the television cameras.
What was it about Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s film that the audiences didn’t like? A unique storytelling device where the punctuation marks were entirely done away with? I remember sitting next to a director, who was SMSing fractically, at the premiere of Saawariya. Later I came to know what message his friends were getting. “F...k all film”. That was the SMS sent from the premiere.
The brave breed will continue to plough uncharted soil. Even Karan Johar a hardcore masalawala from Mumbai’s dreamland is looking into the deep end. Outwardly as different as creatively possible, Luck By Chance and Dev D had a lot in common. We heard Anurag say that Luck By Chance was the best debut film he had seen in the last ten years. Dil Chahta Hai was a cult film, But it reminded us of Joel Schumacher’s St Elmo’s Fire. We all tend to careen over with ecstasy when something even slightly out of the way comes our way.
Most Hindi films that have made a lingering impact in the past six decades have echoed earlier works. Mother India was like The Good Earth. Anand reminded us of It’s A Wonderful Life. Bobby was Romeo and Juliet. Hum Aapke Hain Koun was cannibalised from Nadiya Ke Paar and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi echoed Satyajit Ray’s Apur Sansar and Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s obsolete Biswajeet-Mala Sinha starrer Pyar Ka Sapna. I think Delhi 6 is one of the coolest and most compelling clutter-breakers in recent times. Originality is not an overrated virtue. It’s just something most filmmakers don’t have access to.

Govinda can’t stop talking
Talk about Govinda and rest assured that there’re bound to be smiling faces around given his sense of humour.
Add to that the presence of good friend and director David Dhawan and you have people doubling up with laughter.
The duo can liven up any moment with their one-liners and getting a dose of an unadulterated combo of the two were actors Sohail Khan, Sushmita Sen, Lara Dutta and even Riteish Deshmukh.
The actors were all a part of an event organised by Vashu Bhagnani recently, when those present found Govinda at his funniest best. No sooner would his co-actors start talking about an issue even remotely serious, then Govinda would break up the conversation, insisting on keeping the mood jovial. And though the actors took it in their stride, people were overheard talking about Govinda’s talkativeness. Guess, a politician’s habit of making himself being heard and not hearing has caught up with Chi Chi too!

Aishwarya Rai Miffed With ‘Pa’ Amitabh over Shankar's ‘Robot’
Well, if you thought all was goody-goody in the Bachchan household then there’s something you ought to know. It is being believed that the Bachchan daughter-in -law Aishwarya is miffed with dear ‘Pa’ Amitabh over her yet to be released flick ‘Robot’, which has become a never ending woe for Ash.
According to reports, the reason for her displeasure is the fact that it was Amitabh who’d insisted upon her to sign on Shankar’s ‘Robot’ opposite Rajinikanth but now the movie seems to have become a thing of trouble for Ash. Apparently, Ash wasn’t too keen to give a nod to the movie’s proposal but it was ‘Pa’ who told her to go ahead as he was obliged to Rajini for the same.
Industry insiders suggest that the movie has been delayed to the hilt and it’s due to this that Ash is not able to sign on new projects since she has to finish off with ‘Robot’ first. Some reports even indicate towards a supposed string of disagreements between Ash and Shankar (the director of ‘Robot’) on the last minute changes in the script as well as over little nuances like make-up and clothes.
All these occurrences have supposedly angered Ash and have made her to think that she shouldn’t have considered Big B’s obligation and instead made her own choice.
Just one suggestion for Ash - With the way her career is going, guess she can’t afford to take suggestions from anyone anymore, even if that means saying a ‘no’ to ‘Pa’!
