Freida Pinto Dumps Her Fiance

London : `Slumdog Millionaire' star Freida Pinto has dumped her fiance because she wants to concentrate on her career, it has been revealed.

According to friends, the 24-year-old has told Mumbai PR agent Rohan Antao that she could not be with him and be a world-renowned actress at the same time.

Pinto didn't want to get caught up in the regular routine life just when her career was taking off. So, she decided to call off the engagement, a pal said.

During her meteoric rise to stardom, Pinto had kept Rohan a secret from the media.

Pals say that Rohan is `devastated' at losing the girl he thought he was marrying.

"It's been a terrible time for him. One minute they were getting married, the next it was all over," News of the World quoted a close friend, as saying.

The couple met at St Xavier's College, Mumbai, where Freida studied English and Rohan chemistry.

Rohan then became boss of a small PR firm, and last year popped the question while the actress was filming the Oscar-nominated movie.

She posted photos of her engagement party on her Facebook web page but they have now been taken down.

For the last two months, Pinto has been promoting British director Danny Boyle's flick around the UK and USA-putting a strain on her relationship.

"Freida realised she had been presented with an incredible opportunity but would not be able to make the most of it if she was tied down. She knew that she had to put acting first from now on," the pal said.

"She and Rohan talked on the phone about finding a way to make it work-but her circumstances had changed so much they knew it wasn't to be," the pal added.

Slumdog Millionaire''s child actors to miss Academy Awards

London : Child actors Rubina Ali and Azharuddin Ismail, who starred in the critically acclaimed film `Slumdog Millionaire', will miss the Oscars next week because their parents have allegedly withdrawn their permission for traveling to Los Angeles with other cast members.

According to reports, they have instead asked for the airfares to be paid to them in cash.

The film, which tracks the story of an 18-year-old slum boy from rags to riches, has been nominated for 10 Academy Awards.

Film producer Christian Colson revealed that the unexpected success of the film has disturbed his and director Danny Boyle''s plans for the children to enjoy a long-term benefit from appearing in the film.

The movie bosses were accused of underpaying Azharuddin, 8, and Rubina, 8, who played young Salim and young Latika in the film.

The film''s makers had decided not take any of the child actors to any of the many award ceremonies, but were later persuaded to take them to the Oscars.

They had begun trying to get passports for Rubina or Azharuddin when their parents said they would not be going.

Azharuddin''s father was in hospital and his mother would not let him travel with a chaperone.

"Now it''s too late. The last thing they said to us was give us the money for the plane fares instead," the Telegraph quoted him as saying.

50 Days Completed of Ghajini Movie

MUMBAI: Ghajini, which released on the evening of Wednesday, 24th December, completes 50 days at the box office. Though the film was earlier supposed to arrive on limited paid previews (which are generally restricted to the last show of the day

at select multiplexes in metros), such high was the euphoria around the Aamir Khan starrer that number of such shows was increased. Ultimately, the number increased to such an extent that paid previews began early in the evening itself, hence officially making Wednesday as the day of arrival for the film.

As the film enters into its 8th week, Ghajini continues to do quite well in theaters, something which is reflected in the box office figures which continue to talk the language of crores. Bringing in 1 crore even in it’s sixth week, the film stood at 114 crores at the end of six weeks and should be closer to the 115 crore mark at the end of its theatrical run.

All eyes are now set on Aamir Khan’s next major release Three Idiotswhich arrives in Aamir Khan’s patented slot now, Christmas, especially after the superb success of first Taare Zameen Par (2007) and now Ghajini (2008) which arrived in the same festive season. While Dhobi Ghaat too will arrive before Three Idiots, it isn’t quite a bona fide Aamir Khan film since other youngsters are expected to dominate the screen space.

On the other hand, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi has done excellently for itself in its nine week running. Entering its 10th week tomorrow, the film will end around 87 crores in an overall run. The film is far lesser expensive than last few Shah Rukh Khan starrers like Om Shanti Om, Chak De India and Don – The Chase Begins Again and has still done far better business. Looking at the results, this film too deserves an All Time Blockbuster considering the relatively lower cost that it has been made.

Abhishek Jealous From Aishwarya Rai

Bollywood star Abhishek Bachchan, whose ‘Drona’ failed to attract the interest of the wider public in 2008, has big hopes from his upcoming film ‘Dilli 6’. Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, the film will hit theatres on Feb 20.

In Dilli 6, Abhi is playing the role of ‘Roshan Mehra’, who is born and brought up in New York. Roshan has never been to India but the path of the movie brings him to his ancestral home for the first time. The challenge of the role was to stick out and blend into the surroundings.

While Rakeysh’s movie talks of Abhi’s character discovering India, Abhishek said that he is a very patriotic person, and wants to do something for the sake of country.

The actor said, “I want to do something about the level of education in our country. Education is very important and I am here because my parents gave me a fantastic education. And only education can take the country far.”

After ‘Yuva’ and ‘Guru’, Abhishek is working with Mani Ratnam for the third time in ‘Ravana’ where his co-star is his loving wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

“With Mani, one is very excited because I know that he is going to guide me into a brilliantly crafted movie. I hope he has enough trust in me and I don’t let him down,” he said.

But recently, what made the actor jealous was the verity that Aishwarya got the chance to work along with his childhood idol.

On this, Abhi said, “We were at the premiere of ‘The Pink Panther 2’ and it was great fun. It’s a hilarious film. Steve Martin is a genius. I am very jealous of Ash. He is someone I have been idolising when I was growing up. And Ash gets the opportunity to work with the likes of Steve Martin and Jeremy Irons!”

Aishwarya Rai’s New Friend in NY

Guess who’s Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s new friend? The American model, TV hostess, actress, singer and businesswoman Tyra

Banks.

The two beauties discovered kindred souls in each other the moment Ash went onto The Tyra Banks Show in New York after the premiere of Pink Panther 2 on February 2. They hit it off from the word go. And, after the show, Tyra invited Ash for lunch. The twosome went to a downtown restaurant and talked like there was no tomorrow.

They decided to stay in touch thereafter. Something else that Ash did in NY that was not in character was the way she dressed for the premiere and pink carpet — yes, in the Big Apple, they don’t do a red carpet. Giving up her trademark saree,

she opted for a black Ferretti designer gown worn with Jimmy Choo iamond-strapped shoes and an Armani clutch-purse. She explained, “I love the saree and if people think of me as the global representative of the beautiful apparel then I’m happy.

But I also like to surprise myself and others. Just like doing the hot babe act in Dhoom 2 and the Rajput princess in Jodhaa-Akbar. Both the avatars are me. And I’m equally comfortable in a gown.”

Race Between Katreena and Kreena Begins

Mumbai: It’s going to take much more than just rubbishing animosity claims for the two hot-bod actresses, Katrina and Kareena to put up a show of solidarity and sisterhood. Going by their current actions, it’s evident that the war between them is just getting messier by the day. And the latest feat in this cutthroat competition is bagged by the no longer size-zero diva of Bollywood, Kareena Kapoor.

The actress has replaced Katrina in the much-awaited sequel of 2008’s biggest success ‘Race’. Directed by Abbas Mastan, the film will have real life couple Saif and his arm-candy Kareena romancing on reel. Even though, the ever so eager love-birds Saif and Kareena’s first flick as a couple ‘Tashan’ might have fizzled out without a trace at the BO, that’s not keeping the top notch directors from signing on the glamorous two-some.

Speaking to a news daily, Ramesh Taurani from Tips says, “Yes, we are already working on the script of Race 2. We were thrilled with Race’s success. Theatrically and overseas, it grossed Rs 120 crore and was one of the blockbusters of 2008; that’s why we are planning a sequel to it. Abbas-Mustaan will direct the sequel while Saif and Anil will be retained. We are also going in for new casting with the sequel. Kareena will act in Race 2 opposite Saif. In Race, the story will be different while some of the characters will remain the same.”

What’s more is that the sequel is going to be much thrilling and bigger than it’s first part and going by Saif and Kareena’s camaraderie it’s bound to be sexier. Talking to a news daily Saif said, “I am very excited to be part of the Race sequel. I have been offered many sequels but there are only certain films which merit a sequel Race is one of them. We aim to make Race 2 better than the original. It will be slicker, faster, sexier, more thrilling and upgraded in a much bigger way from Race.”

Well, with Katrina out of the film, the conspiracy has already begun.

shahrukh khan Trims ‘Billu Barber’ To ‘Billu’

To avoid further controversies, the King Khan aka the Bollywood legend Shahrukh Khan has decided to trim down the word “barber” from the title of his forthcoming home production movie ‘Billu Barber’ because of objection to the word “Barber” in the title by the Salon and Hair Dressers’ Association of Maharashtra.

The association said that “Barber” was not just an insulting term but also referred to a caste.

While talking to report persons, SRK said that his production house Red Chillies has decided to take away the word 'barber' from all the posters.

Hence, the film will be called ‘Billu’ only.

He said, “I understand the emotions and I respect. Instead of it becoming an issue where people are going to blacken out poster and give some sort of dissent or grief at cinema halls, film is not about that. We will try and remove the word 'Barber' from the posters.”

Khan said that members of Hairdressers and Saloon Association met him with their ‘genuine concerns’ over the use of the word ‘Barber’ and its Hindi translation ‘Hajaam’.

The actor also said that that he changed the title as he doesn’t want to invoke the anger of any group of people.

“These people feel the word hajaam (barber) that should not be there in the film. We would beep the word in the film, but I don''t think we can do anything about the music. Though the censor board has already cleared the film, we don't think we have shown them in wrong light. There is no point in releasing a film by hurting the sentiments of the people whose profession we are portraying in the film,” said King Khan.

Directed by Priyadarshan, ‘Billu Barber’ is slated for release around Valentine’s Day.

The film produced by SRK’s Red Chillies Entertainment stars Irrfan Khan and Lara Dutta. It also features guest appearances from Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif, making it a star-packed extravaganza.

The story of the movie ‘Billo Barber’ is supposed to be based on two childhood friends - a barber and a rich filmstar.

Inspired from the story of Lord Krishna and his best friend Sudama, Billo Barber is reported to be a remake of Malayalam film ‘Katha Parayumbol’.

While Shahrukh plays the role of a superstar, while Irrfan Khan will act as a barber, who comes to meet his friend after many years.

Lara essays the role of the wife of barber.

Aishwarya Rai Now Full Busy

On 3 Feb was the premiere of her latest international film Pink Panther 2 followed by Abhishek’s birthday two days later. The couple and Abhishek’s parents brought in his birthday in style.

Aishwarya says, “They wanted me to be here for the film’s promotion from earlier on. But I couldn’t because of my prior commitments in India. We’ve a series of premieres lined up. It’s a crazy whirlwind trip that will take me to several countries and continents from Paris to Berlin to Moscow to Madrid . The final destination for my 15-day trip will take me to a screening of the film at the Berlin film festival. Then I’m back and I go straight to resume Mani Ratnam’s film.”

Aishwarya will be returning to India on Feb 14. “Abhishek is in New York with me. But he won’t be able to accompany me for my other premieres because he has to be in India for the promotion of Delhi 6.”

A part of the press has been writing about how minuscule Aishwarya’s role is in Pink Panther.

Sighs the diva, “It’s a bit silly and exhausting to even talk about the length of my role based on what’s seen in the trailers. Did anyone question my role in Khakee when there was only one shot of me in the promo? Isn’t that a very myopic view of contemporary acting? In my very film Iruvar I thought I transcended this footage fetish ,”She makes it crystal clear thar footage is not a burning issue for her. “The choices I’ve made in my career aren’t just about footage but an opportunity to work with actors directors and technicians who enrich my life. Believe me working in Pink Panther was a joy. It was a wonderful experience working with a stalwart like Steve Martin and the rest of the cast and crew. Why spoil it by questioning how much footage I have? So many Indian actors have worked in international ensemble casts.”

Getting somewhat indignant Aishwarya Rai, “I didn’t work in Pink Panther 2 because it was an international project. I got the script. I chose to be happily be part of the film. They shot exactly what I was offered. I don’t need to work with stardust in my eyes. Of course Pink Panther is a Steve Martin vehicle. Is that something to question? All the rest of the wonderful cast including Jean Reno and Andy Garcia play supporting roles. I treasure the experience of working in Pink Panther 2.”
Interestingly Aishwarya was offered the lead opposite Will Smith in 7 Pounds which opens in Mumbai this week.
“Will Smith and I will work together for sure,” laughs Aishwarya. “There have been a number of offers. Dates just don’t work out. If he’s keen to work with me, so am I.”

Romance a Cow if Director Asks: Shahid Kapur

Post his break up with Kareena Kapoor, Shahid Kapur had gone into hiding. The actor, who was only seen for his 15 minutes of fame last year in his sole release ‘Kismat Konnection’, has matured and evolved with time. Today he is much more focused about the kind of cinema he wants to be part of. And topping all these charming traits is the loudly stated statement ‘I am single’ that makes this hunk simply irresistible. Speaking to Swati Chaturvedi of Spicezee.com, the actor spoke about his life after ‘the break-up’ and his upcoming films on ‘Kahiye Janaab’.

Excerpts:

Swati:: Post your break-up with Kareena you had nearly gone into hiding. You didn’t speak to the media making us all believe that you were angry at the media.

Shahid: No, there was nothing like that. I had only one film release last year. Maybe that’s the reason I was less in news.

Swati: So, does that mean that you only speak to the media when your flicks hit screens?

Shahid: See, our work is such that we only interact with the media when our films are about to hit theaters. My interactions with the media have always been limited to my work. And it’s only during this time that I answer questions and get chatty.

Swati: What’s has kept you so busy?

Shahid: I have been shooting for Vishal Bharadwaj’s ‘Kaminay’. (laughs)And no offence meant it’s just the title of the film.

Swati: Don’t you feel that the title of the film is bound to spur controversy?

Shahid: It’s a different title and it’s also a title that I feel will draw attention. But, I don’t feel there is anything wrong with it. It’s not a harmful film. And I feel that the right to choose the title of the film completely rests with the director. I know Vishal and I blindly trust his judgment. He has made some marvelous films and I don’t think there is anything wrong with the title.

Swati: You have always kept away from all kinds of controversies and have never been involved in any kind of blog or abs war antics. Is it because you have wanted to come across as a dignified actor?

Shahid: I won’t say that I am dignified and others aren’t. I feel that even I would take off my shirt if my film so demands. And today, I feel all these wars are a part of promoting your films. You have to be aggressive in today’s age. It’s a time when one has to shout from the rooftop to draw attention. I feel every person has a right to market his films. So whichever way works for them, it’s their wish.

Swati: You haven’t been a part of any Bollywood camp. Do you feel left out?

Shahid: (Laughs) Well, I have a home so I don’t need to stay in a camp. But honestly, I am in a creative field and it has never bothered me to think about such trivial things. I feel that the best work happens when two newcomers are roped in because they are eager to deliver their best.

Swati: Have all your films been exciting?

Shahid: Well I won’t say all, but every film has been a learning experience. Honestly speaking, it has been only 2 years since I have started choosing films. Now, I do only those films that I want to be a part of. Initially, when I came into the industry, I use to trust others judgment more than mine, but now I have developed a knack for films and know what roles do the audience want to see me in.

Swati: And what roles are those?

Shahid: I think they like to see me in romantic roles.

Swati: Is that because you are 27 and single?

Shahid : Well, I don’t want to comment on that because then others are going to ask me the same and I don’t want to answer such questions.

Swati: Is Shahid Kapur single?

Shahid: I have always stated that if there is anyone in my life, then everyone will know of it in due course of time. And to tell you frankly, I don’t like to talk about my private life in public. I feel it’s my right to keep it to myself.

Swati: This change has come after your break-up with Kareena. Why were you so open about your relationship with her earlier?

Shahid: Today I don’t like talking about my personal relationship because I feel that it’s my personal space. When I was in relationship with Kareena I use to think differently, but now things have changed. As a person, I have always wanted normalcy in my life. I have come from a middle class family and a basic background. I have travelled in buses and trains. I never lived in bungalow surrounded by guards. But, the fact is that life changes after you become a star and I try my best not to get carried away by my celebrity lifestyle.

Swati: You say you don’t like talking about your personal life, but when there were speculations an affair between you and Vidya, she had a lot to say. Didn’t that bother you?

Shahid: Vidya is a very good friend of mine and what she says it’s her wish. I can only speak for myself. And many a times there are things said in a different way and projected in a different way. I really don’t know what to believe.

Swati: You were in a committed relationship with Kareena. The break-up must have hurt. How far did it affect your work?

Shahid: It did hurt. But as an actor, I have never let anything come in the way of my work. I have always given my best.

Swati:”Jab We Met’ was a huge success. Do you think you’ll work with Kareena again?

Shahid: Of course, I will. I have said this right from the time ‘the break up’ happened that if a good movie comes and the director tells me that no one else except Kareena will suit a certain role then I have no right to say that I won’t do the film.

In fact, if my director will ask me to romance a cow or a buffalo then I will do that too. It’s my job.

Swati: Who is your favourite female co-star?

Shahid: On the basis of my films, I think it’s Amrita Rao because my first movie was with her. We were both newcomers and it was very difficult to have the kind of chemistry we did. Also, Kareena for ‘Jab We Met’, But currently I have really enjoyed working with Priyanka.

Swati: So, Vidya Balan is not your favourite?

Shahid: No, I do like working with her. In fact she is one of the finest actors I have worked with and I hope I get to do a film with her where the characters have enough to do. I feel that ‘Kismat Konnection’ did have romance, but not enough to make a couple work.

Swati: You are acting in a film directed by your father. Why did it take so long for you two to come together for a film?

Shahid: My father wanted us to do a film only once he had the right script in hand. He never wanted us to do a film for the sake of doing one.

Swati: What are your plans for the Valentine’s day?

Shahid: I will be shooting for a Yash Raj film in Chandigarh. So I am a very boring 27-yr old.

Swati: Are you and Sania involved?

Shahid: Me and Sania are good friends and nothing more than that.

Sonam Kapoor’s Dress Choice

For Rakeysh Mehra’s Delhi-6, Sonam Kapoor will be seen wearing a dress that her maternal grandmother had worn during her marriage, a long time ago. Rakeysh was in for a surprise when a normally shy and reticent Sonam refused to wear an outfit that he and the producers had arranged for her.

Our source said,”Sonam did not like the fit and the finish of the particular outfit, which was given to her. So, she told Rakeyesh that she wanted to wear something else instead.”

Rakeysh had no time to organise a new outfit for Sonam. Thankfully, Sonam solved the problem herself. She told Rakeysh that her naani (maternal grandmother in Delhi) had worn a similar outfit at the time of her wedding and if she could wear that outfit. Naturally, Rakeysh was skeptical as he wondered if the outfit was still intact and usable. He agreed to let Sonam wear the outfit after she assured him that it was in good condition.

Sonam’s grandmother was only too happy to lend her the outfit. Our source added, “Fortunately, the dress fit Sonam so perfectly that it didn’t require any alterations and it didn’t look too outdated either.”

Although Rakeysh heaved a sigh of relief, certain shots had to be canned again. It did upset the schedule a bit but they finally got what they wanted.

Kareena Kpoor’s Plan For V-day

Kareena Kapoor says that her ‘tall dark and handsome’, namely beau Saif Ali Khan, is always with her, and they don’t need to be together specially on Valentine’s Day. The first part was quite obvious – a day after she landed in Delhi for a promotional do, her ‘tall, dark and handsome’ joined her and they shot together on Sunday
morning in the heart of Delhi (see box). As for the second, Bebo makes it clear that she’s working on V-Day. “I knew that I’d be asked what I was going to do on Valentine’s. I’m working on V-Day, and as it is, I don’t believe in all this. My tall, dark and handsome is always with me!” she says. They’ve been making appearances together too – for the marathon in Delhi, cheering for the Mumbai IPL team last year … “The only thing I understand is Bollywood,” says Bebo, about whether she’s going to be seen in the second season as well. “IPL, business and all this stuff I don’t understand. But I will try and take out time to watch some matches.” However, the one thing she usually finds time for is her yoga – and 100 surya namaskars on some days. “There are many ways of staying mentally and physically fit, but I maintain that yoga is the best form of exercise. I do yoga every day for at least one and a half hours, and can work for the whole day without feeling tired. But when I miss my yoga session, I feel pathetic the entire day,” she says. So is that how she has that ‘size zero figure’? “I am not size zero! In fact, I’m well rounded! And I’m tired of telling everyone that.” And does she really do the surya namaskar 100 times a day? “On an average 60, but yes, even 100 at times. It takes about half an hour to do it 100 times,” she confirms. It’s been an eventful weekend for Bebo – on Friday evening, she was given an award in Mumbai by Erin Brockovich, and she was mighty thrilled about it. “It’s a great feeling to be given these awards. It makes you feel special,” Bebo says happily. What also makes her happy is having worked with Sly Stallone and Denise Richards. “It was a pleasure working with those guys. And right now, it’s great to be a part of the Indian film industry, because everyone wants to be associated with us. So many Hollywood stars have worked with us, I guess we’re just waiting for Brad Pitt now! And look what accolades Slumdog Millionaire is getting for India! It’s amazing how Indians are doing so well globally. God willing, one day one of my movies will win an Oscar too,” she says. And what about having worked with the three Khans – does that make her the queen bee in Bollywood? “It is always a very different experience – working with different actors. But as far as kings and queens are concerned, they only exist in a pack of cards and not in Bollywood. Bollywood only has artistes doing their job.”

Asin keeps the boys waiting

The Ghajini girl has a life outside of Bollywood. For starters, the girl is a bookworm! “I used to have a huge library at home, so reading has been a habit since childhood. And even today, I just can’t do without a book…,” said Asin when we met her recently. So the girl is ‘booked’ in some sense of the term… but about being booked in real life, love still hasn’t happened to Asin.

The hooking and booking may have to wait for a while she tells us. As she is more engrossed in books and films, the boys will just have to wait. And we are sure they’d be willing to wait for this hottie.bb

I doesn’t consider Beautifull my self: Dia Mirza

Beautiful actress Dia Mirza surprised us by saying that she doesn’t consider herself beautiful. When we caught up with the actress recently, she told us that her mother never let her realise that she was a pretty girl. “Whenever anyone told me that I looked gorgeous my mother used to say ‘Don’t let that get to your head, it’s not true.’

My mom used to say that a beautiful woman is the one who is unaware of her beauty. If you start thinking about your beauty, then it will not last long.” So D is trying hard to forget that she is beautiful! But with so many people paying you wonderful compliments, that’s going to be a hard thing to do, dear Dia!
