Justin Timberlake Haiti

Justin Timberlake Haiti: Justin Timberlake, you are the man. While every performer gave heartfelt performances for the "Hope for Haiti Now" telethon Friday (Jan. 22), the former 'N Sync member gave one of the most moving performances of the night.

Alongside Timberlake was a mystery man in a beanie whom some mistook for Dave Grohl or Ray LaMontagne. Some people on Twitter just resorted to calling him "other dude," tweeting things like, "Justin Timberlake, you're making me cry! (You too, other dude)" or "Justin Timberlake and...and...er, no idea who the other dude is!"

But in fact, that person was Matt Morris, who also has roots in the "Mickey Mouse Club" and is a successful songwriter and musician. He's written stuff for Timberlake, Christina Aguilera and Kelly Clarkson's hit, "Miss Independent."

Check out Justin and Matt singing a cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah." Have a tissue handy.

Gary Matthews Jr

Gary Matthews Jr, The Mets will acquire Gary Matthews Jr. and cash from the Angels for Brian Stokes. Matthews, who receives $500K for being traded, is set to make $11MM in 2010 and $12MM in 2011. The Angels will pick up all but $2MM of the $23.5MM remaining on the deal.

Matthews joined the Angels before the 2007 season, signing a $50MM deal. He leaves without much fanfare, as he's coming off a season in which he combined poor defense with a .250/.336/.361 line. That's far from the .866 OPS he posted in his 2006 walk year.

Roe v Wade

Roe v Wade Today marks the 37th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court decision that made abortion legal. For the last 37 years, the case has remained in a constant state of controversy, with anti-choice activists using any vehicle available to chip away at the right to choose. The most recent manifestation was seen in the health care reform debate, when Rep. Bart Stupak and Sen. Ben Nelson took the already-contentious issue and add another, obstructive layer to the controversy. The debate raged in the feminist blogosphere and the mainstream press, but one group remained silent: the African-American community.

To the untrained eye, it would appear that African Americans are not concerned with abortion rights, one way or another. But that perception could not be further from reality.

According to the most recent data from the Centers for Disease Control, black women accounted for 36.4 percent of all abortion services performed in 2006. Black women are roughly 8.5 percent of the national population, yet we seek more pregnancy termination services than other minority groups. Yet, when the right to choose is under siege, many in our community choose to remain silent Read More Roe v Wade

Veer Movie Review

Veer Movie Review, Ancestral feud. Mutual hatred. Boy meets girl. And if that ain't enough you have rom-com, song-dance sequences and comic relief. Those, as we all know, are the ingredients of the masala cocktail. They seem to be in almost the right proportion too. How much each element is allowed to marinade is where things go wrong. So, while it’s a go right ahead for "Salmaniacs", for others it's not a complete loss either.

That could be because some masalaparameters are kept void like a love triangle, a spy in the tribe, etc. But, if we really wanted to get into what could have been, there is a lot more that could've been straightened for it to make a better mark with the audiences. For example, the comic element in the romantic thread distracted from the story big time. The sincerity of the lovers didn't reach us mainly due to the laughs the makers seek to generate.

Then, there's the almost 3-hour length and the pace at which every elements of the story unfolds. While introduction to various Rajahs and Sardars and their black, white and guess what…some gray characters takes up the first half, it isn't boring. For one the way the camera moves, pans and zooms, make you marvel the terrain. Then the songs, especially Taali is composed, sung, picturized (in a smallish tribal den), and choreographed to draw and keep your attention. At this point you are wondering about the story that is still waiting to be told and you see potential too Read More Veer Movie Review
